Domain protection

Keep your domain safe and never let it expire by mistake

Automatic renewal, reminders before your domain expires, registrar lock and WHOIS privacy: everything you need to keep your domain in your hands.

Why it matters

Why you should never let your domain expire

Do not lose your domain

When a domain expires and is not renewed in time, it can be released and anyone can register it.

Keep your website and email online

An expired domain stops pointing to your website and your email addresses stop receiving messages.

Protect your search rankings

If your website goes offline because the domain expired, you can lose visits and positions in search engines.

Avoid recovery fees

Recovering a domain in its redemption period usually costs much more than a normal renewal.

Stop others from taking it

Some companies watch for expiring domains to register them and sell them back at a high price.

Keep the trust of your customers

Your customers know your domain. Losing it means losing the address they use to find you.

Domain protection FAQs

What happens when a domain expires?

The domain stops working: your website and email go offline. On most extensions there is then a grace period where you can still renew it at the normal price, followed by a redemption period where recovery costs more. After that, the domain is released and anyone can register it.

How does automatic renewal work?

With automatic renewal on, we create the renewal invoice some days before your domain expires and email it to you. Pay it before the expiry date and your domain is renewed with no interruption.

Where can I see when my domain expires?

In your Cloudoio client area, under My domains, you see the expiry date and the renewal status of each domain.

What is the grace period?

It is a short time after the expiry date where you can still renew the domain at the normal price. Its length depends on the extension, and some country extensions have no grace period at all, so it is best to renew before the expiry date.

What is the redemption period?

If the grace period ends without a renewal, many extensions place the domain in redemption for about 30 days. You can still recover it, but the registry charges an extra recovery fee.

What if my payment fails?

The renewal invoice stays open and we remind you by email. Update your payment method or pay the invoice from your client area before the expiry date and your domain is renewed.

Can I renew my domain for several years?

Yes. Most extensions can be renewed for up to 10 years in total. It is the easiest way to avoid surprises.

Why should I keep my contact details up to date?

Renewal reminders and important notices about your domain go to the email address in your account. If it is out of date, you may miss them.

My domain is with another provider. Can Cloudoio protect it?

Yes, transfer it to Cloudoio. You manage it next to your hosting and email, with renewal reminders and registrar lock. For most extensions the transfer also adds one more year to your domain.

Can I recover a domain that has already expired?

Often yes, if it is still in the grace or redemption period. Contact us as soon as possible and we will tell you the options and the cost for your extension.
